VERY SAD news about Paul Opitz (UPMan)

Joe M.

We have been discussing this on the scanner email list,
but it was suggested it should be posted here as well...

------------------------

I just received word that Paul Opitz (UPMan) passed away Saturday from his long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family when he passed.

That is all the news I have at this time.

To say he will be missed is an understatement.

Joe M.

Jim Walls

Terrible news. Yes, he will be missed greatly!

I would say at 1time he has help us all. God bless him and family.

May he rest in Piece, he was a good man.

That sucks.  He is the reason I bought so many of their scanners. I hope they bring on some one to try and fill his shoes.

He was very helpful on these posts and although I never asked him directly, I did read his posts, which were very helpful and informative. I feel I may have taken him for granted and wish I had thanked him when he was with us.  Bernie Burawski, KJ4BWQ

This is truly a sad moment for the scanner community, he will be greatly missed. I wish his family God Speed to go through this sad time. I'm sure he is looking down on all of us. Rest in peace my good man.

I got to hang out with him for maybe an hour when I worked at Ham Radio Outlet in Oakland. He was there for the day to introduce Uniden's scanners to our customers. He seemed like a very nice guy. I enjoyed being with him.

I like that shop...got my 245 and 246t there....might have met UPman, but didn't know him. He gave good info, but never wasted words.

Paul documented his battle with cancer on his blog. I only wish I would have some of his dignity and humor if I had to go through what he went through.

Thanks, Joe, for posting this news. Very sad news indeed. Although I haven't been as active as I have in the past, I felt that Paul was:

  • Knowledgeable
  • Friendly
  • Approachable
  • Willing to listen to feedback
Rest in peace!
