Has anyone successfully gotten audio in to work on a dell Laptop that only has a combo headphone/microphone jack?

I use an Audio to USB adapter.

Are you trying to basically listen to the audio from the scanner? WHen

you plug the scanner in (using a 3.5mm audio patch cable), the laptop should prompt you, headset or microphone. Say Microphone. Then in Windows Audio properties, you'll need to select "Listen to this device."

Trying to use the record function in Proscan.
This is a Dell Laptop. That option is supposed to appear, but I have been unable to implement that. So this is a Dell Laptop specific question.

On the Dells I've had to set, they just use the standard stereo 3.5mm audio cable. When you plug it in a popup comes up and asks how it is to be used. Select LINE IN.

Thanks. I don't get that pop up. Furthermore, under "Stereo Mix Properties" the Jack Information option is a blank with the exception of a single black dot.

I wasn't getting that pop up. Furthermore, under "Stereo Mix Properties" the Jack Information option was a blank with the exception of a single black dot. I found an older version of the driver and installed it. I now get the pop up that permits me top identify the use of the jack. A standard stereo cable with 3.5 mm male connectors at each end is used for the connection. The popup recognizes the connection and I selected mic in. the Version of the driver I am using on my Dell 15 7958 2-in-1 is
