Old Bearcat Works Better
Tim Ferguson
I’m rather perplexed and am hoping for some assistance from those who truly understand scanning today. I live in a city located at the corner of four counties which I have programmed into my 436HP, 536HP, and SDS100. Yet, and this is the issue, I can receive fire calls from neighboring Clinton County on 151.415 on my 1990’s Uniden Bearcat BC200XLT handheld with just a short antenna but cannot receive the same on any of the above scanners programmed using the RR database. The appropriate Service Types have been enabled, and the two 536HP’s are connected to outside antennas on a 40-foot TV tower.
For reference, referring to USA>Illinois>Clinton>County Systems>Clinton>Clinton County-ETSB/911 in Radio Reference. Thanks, Tim

Try putting the channel in manually and see if you hear anything.

Have you tried turning the CTCSS detect off, or put it into search mode for a tone for that entry? If you use search, it will display the tone and if it's different, you can email RR to post an updated tone. Rick NK7I

I am experiencing a similar situation. I think it’s based more on the number of frequencies/systems. Given enough time, the SDS200 will eventually find the local transmission if it is long enough. My issue is trying to get the scanner to just scan a short favorites list. I don’t understand the process to set up the one touch favorite key even after reading the manual. It would be nice if I could get it to not scan the database. Even the older scanners did not land on a frequency fast if the scan list was big enough.... Steve

To shut off data base scan push the squelch/menu knob , set scan selection enter, select lists to monitor enter, full database enter

Even with my newer scanner, since there is plenty of room, I put the frequencies I'm concerned with in multiple times with other frequencies in between. Then you have a better chance it will catch what you need. I don't know of any reason you only have to use a frequency only once. : )Mick --

Or use the priority feature(s) of the scanner instant the things you want/need to hear more.

It does work with the search mode, now to catch it when there’s a broadcast to get the PL.

There may not be a tone, by system change or database error.

It’ll continue to hear as is, but it would be helpful to keep the database accurate. Glad you’re on top of it. Rick NK7I Smell Czech corruptions are inevitable
