Guessing Uniden might be caught up in it as well for manufacturing and service.

I read that Ford has closed two assembly lines and laid off over a 1,000
workers. That's for the F150, which is probably their most popular
model. The problem is that they can't get enough chips for the various
computers that are used in modern vehicles.

It's going to be months, maybe even the end of the year, before the
supply chain straightens out.

It's effecting EVERYTHING imported into this country.

Yes, all scanners can listen carrier squelch.  If you don't program a tone or digital code squelch, it's operating carrier squelch. Easy test, turn the squelch knob all the way one way or the other. If it's receiving carrier squelch, one of those will result in white noise.

Hi All,

No success so far.

Jim - My analog scanner is a BCXLT245. Not sure how to ensure that I am listening carrier squelch (no PL). Maybe it doesn't have that option? It's just programmed as conventional. And, yes, I'm hearing nothing. Can't find any other report of another frequency or that it's encrypted.

Dave - I tried the other frequencies you suggested (programmed on an analog scanner) for about an hour and get nothing. Maybe I need to program them on digital - I'll try that.

Mick (and Dave) - If that's not the correct freq can you possibly find out what is?

Tomorrow I'll add those three frequencies to the 436HP and I'll put in the Holyoke DMR channels, since I might receive those.

Will report back.

Thanks everyone.

- Maggie

Well, you could have them send it back, get the parts, and fix it
yourself. Of course if they are having trouble getting the parts, I'm
not sure how soon it might be until you get them.

COVID has everything backing up. People don't want to work because they
are currently making as much or more sitting at home. I know several who
are making almost double what they normally would, and they don't have
to spend money on fuel, or wear-and-tear on the car, and all that time
wasted actually working. It's like a country-wide vacation.

I was talking to a guy who has a used car lot. He can't even get cars to
sell. Nobody is trading them in and the auction houses are not running much.

Don't worry. Things will return to normal when the government cheese
runs out. Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later.

Hang in there.  Yeah, it sucks to be without, but we (an AV Co.) are having the same issues with pro cameras, projectors, microphones, etc., getting repaired, due to COVID.  Big names too like Sony, Panasonic and Shure.  All backed up.  Some repairs are even been completed in technicians homes!  I have sent in a couple of 780's and 785's to Uniden a few years ago.  Think I never waited more than a month to get it back.  New reality.

Not to muddy the works here, but I have been following this some. I decided to give something a try. Looking at the FCC database, there aren't any licenses that show up for Ludlow with a frequency of 453.250. And expanding out farther, there are only five licenses for the whole state on that frequency, and they are all public works. Maybe you have the frequency wrong?

Did an FCC search for Ludlow. Showing 3 repeater frequencies assigned to the Police Dept. under callsign WQEY264. Maybe they are using these freqs now?

Try these: 453.3125 453.4625 453.7625

Yes I have older non-digital capable scanners that I run all the time. There is total silence on that freq 453.250.  Interesting that that means I won't get anything on the digital if that's the case, but that's what's happening for sure.  Nothing.  Silence.
Make sure you are listening carrier squelch (no PL) on the analog scanner.  If you are hearing nothing, then it means that the agency you are trying to hear on the frequency has changed frequency.  If they are DMR on that frequency, you should hear largely noise.  It's a destinctive noise if you've heard it before, but I could not describe it well enough in text for you to know exactly what to listen for.
