Re: SDS Radios
Hi Joe,
Please give me an example of “RF Environment”. I am in North East Ohio and there’s plenty of listening from Cleveland, to the east and to the western suburbs.
Thanks!

Re: SDS Radios
That depends on your RF environment (for any scanner).

Re: SDS Radios
To Dewey: I keep reading in these threads that the SDS’s scan slower. Just how much slower and is it recognizable enough to make a difference?
Thanks,
Gianni

Re: SDS Radios/ HOME PATROL
I agree that traveling with the Home Patrol is great, especially with a GPS connected. I went a step farther, I now use an SDS-100 with a built in GPS module, it is the ultimate road trip scanner.

Re: SDS Radios/ HOME PATROL
I travel quite a bit for work and just for enjoyment and love the Home Patrol.
If you're using the radio in multiple destinations you need Home Patrol, it makes all that simple.

Re: SDS Radios
Hi Folks,
Just received my SDS200 yesterday and have been comparing it to my other
scanners / VHF transceivers.
My reference target is a transmitter that is 46 air miles away over VERY flat terrain.

Re: SDS Radios
My view: the SDS100 is a good scanner wrapped in great eye-candy. You’ll find functionality similar to the 436/536 line.
On the downside, you will find it to have significantly less sensitivity

Hi, the sds100 is expensive, but you simply type in the zip code and all the available frequency's auto program. Any where I've traveled, it has programed properly. You can also buy the GPS option and

I like it. I largely bought it for one system. I used to work for Southern California Edison - the electric utility for most of southern California. I ran their trunked system for the last 8.5

SDS Radios
Hi Jim,
What’s your opinion of the SDS100?
What’s the difference between it and my 436/536/TRX-1/TRX-2.
Like I need another scanner.

P25 Phase II is TDMA. AFAIK Motorola never made a TDMA Type II system.
Type II and Phase II are not the same thing.

Although you do have to be aware of whether P25 phase 1 or 2 is being used. If phase 1 is being used, it’s worth checking whether there are plans to switch to phase 2.

You can review the database online at RadioReference.com to see what is available, what is encrypted and match that to what your scanner is capable of presenting to you.
