Well, you could have them send it back, get the parts, and fix it yourself. Of course if they are having trouble getting the parts, I'm not sure how soon it might be until you get them.

COVID has everything backing up. People don't want to work because they are currently making as much or more sitting at home. I know several who are making almost double what they normally would, and they don't have to spend money on fuel, or wear-and-tear on the car, and all that time wasted actually working. It's like a country-wide vacation. I was talking to a guy who has a used car lot. He can't even get cars to sell. Nobody is trading them in and the auction houses are not running much. Don't worry. Things will return to normal when the government cheese runs out. Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later. Joe M.

Hang in there. Yeah, it sucks to be without, but we (an AV Co.) are having the same issues with pro cameras, projectors, microphones, etc., getting repaired, due to COVID. Big names too like Sony, Panasonic and Shure. All backed up. Some repairs are even been completed in technicians homes! I have sent in a couple of 780's and 785's to Uniden a few years ago. Think I never waited more than a month to get it back. New reality. Craig Watervliet NY

I've lost track of this a bit, so I might be repeating myself.
453.250 CC:05 TG:1111 For the 456/536 my listing is this, 453.250000 LUDLOW POLICE DEPARTMENT Off FM DMR 5 Law Dispatch If you entered it as a new listing, make sure that you have the Service Type correct. I haven't been out that way for a couple of years, but as I remember it was working then. It was also confirmed on Scan New England earlier this month. Gary

Re: Ludlow, MA - DMR
Teton Amateur Radio Repeater Association (TARRA)
Not to muddy the works here, but I have been following this some.
I decided to give something a try. Looking at the FCC database,
there aren't any licenses that show up for Ludlow with a frequency
of 453.250. And expanding out farther, there are only five
licenses for the whole state on that frequency, and they are all
public works. Maybe you have the frequency wrong?

Did an FCC search for Ludlow. Showing 3 repeater frequencies assigned to the Police Dept. under callsign WQEY264. Maybe they are using these freqs now?
Try these: 453.3125 453.4625 453.7625 Dave KB2KMM

Thanks for the very valuable clarification here. I'm sorry I didn't immediately see how you were "testing" this. To answer your questions: Yes, the frequency is the same as it was before. Yes I have older non-digital capable scanners that I run all the time. There is total silence on that freq 453.250. Interesting that that means I won't get anything on the digital if that's the case, but that's what's happening for sure. Nothing. Silence. I googled a bunch and don't see any reference to Ludlow Police being encrypted - but it could be. I'm about 2 miles from Ludlow and could hear it on the analog, not a super strong signal, but audible. I am getting the other Ludlow services, Fire, etc., which haven't changed, just fine. Under Upgrade, I have: Upgrade ProVoice Upgrade DMS/MotoTRBO Upgrade NXDN Fortunately, Ray Hill, (local but doesn't yet have the DMR upgrade at the moment) has helped me immensely especially when I first got this scanner. HE screen-shared with me and we met up in person. It turned out that Sentinel is so "easy" I didn't spend a lot of time doing manual programming on the scanner. I'm sure I could brush up on that. Also, all of the fine people in this group have helped me with this model over the years. I don't usually listen to Holyoke, but since you pointed out that it's DMR, I'll try it and see if I get anything. I'm pretty sure I would receive their transmissions. I hope all of this helps trigger someone to have an idea of what's wrong. Thank you very much. - Maggie

Before the radio can decode digital transmissions like P25 or DMR it must hear the transmission. Looking at the Hampden county Mass. page on Radio Reference it appears that the Ludlow Police department is the only one that uses DMR for police communications. All the other police departments use either analog or P25 digital, and some of the departments using P25 are encrypted. Westfield, West Springfield use DMR for public works; Holyoke appears to be using DMR for Fire department and public works communications. Yes, you will not hear anything or see any signal strength indication unless the radio is receiving a transmission. What I suggested was that you listen in analog mode, not any form of digital, in order to see if you are receiving any sort of signal. IF you are receiving a digital signal in analog mode it will sound like a rattling or sputtering noise. If you cannot hear anything in analog mode you will not hear anything in digital mode. Do you have any other scanner such as an older non-digital capable programmable scanner that you could use to make this test? If so program in the frequency of 453.250 and listen. Do you hear ANYTHING at all? How close are you to Ludlow? You indicate that you were able to previously hear their transmissions when the department was using analog. Is the frequency the same as before, or did it change? Are you sure that your scanner has the DMR license and that it is installed and activated? Radio Reference information is not always correct. BCD436HP with DMR License. I made new FL which included Ludlow, MA which is now on DMR. I am sure the FL came down and I see Ludlow in there - 453.250. It shows NFM Color Code 5 and I'm sure I have "Law Dispatch" Service Type turned on (do service types go across FL's?). However, I get nothing. Any ideas? Thanks - Maggie

The color code option is only available after that is selected. You will hear all the TGs regardless. If you want to program it as OFT, you can select specific TGs to hear and use ID SCAN. Yes you can import just one city into a FL. Joe M. On 5/5/2021 6:27 PM, Maggie O'Connor wrote: Hi Guys! Thank you so much! Super sorry I should have told you the

Re: Amplified Speaker

Someone made a comment We do not need an Amplified Speaker a regular external one will work .Yes but the reason I did it on my SDS-100 The audio on VHF/UHF Analog if I turned just the scanner up to hear it better it had a loud hiss in it .I am Old and have some hearing loss from being young dumb and stupid it the US Navy on Air Craft Carriers and Law Enforcement ranges and not wearing hearing protection .
So with the amplified Motorola speaker I can barely turn the audio up and it is loud and clear no hiss and the battery last longer too, It does not have to be a Motorola But that’s what I like , Uniden and others make Amplified speaker for scanners and CB and Ham Radios , Here is a PDF info on the Motorola http://www.mmccs.com/mmarc/n0ss/motorola_amp_spkr_mods_04jul2009.pdf
Only problem I have had over the years was sometimes I would get Alternator whine , I will not say generator that was a long time ago and tube type Scanners would not be to bad and I will give my age away LOL
Happy Scanning

PS If you do not feel comfortable in wiring something your expensive to you scanner Buy something ready to go ..My reason was more about removing the annoying hiss noise out ..

Hey Don, How is it wired to your scanner? Is it powered by a separate power source? I have a Motorola speaker that is not powered. No model number, looks like yours, but only has 2 wires coming from it.. When connected to my SDS100, the battery (even plugged into the charger) last less than an hour. I need to find a way to add a small amplifier to the speaker. Joe KE4VMU Sent from my Phone
