Re: Ludlow, MA - DMR

If color code 5 is set, it has to be digital only for the audio type.
The color code option is only available after that is selected.

You will hear all the TGs regardless. If you want to program it as OFT, you can select specific TGs to hear and use ID SCAN.

Yes you can import just one city into a FL.

I'd love to do that.

Audio Type? Is that on the scanner only? In the software I have
Modulation Auto, Color Code 5 under Audio Option - but not sure where
Audio Type is.. In the software, on the radio or both?

It doesn't look like it's a trunked system, on RRDB.. Can I still prog
as trunk and hear talk groups? I don't have to - I'm interested in
hearing it all..

As usual - one question always brings many more from me..

Can I take just one city in a county from the Full/New DB and bring that
down into a FL with a bunch of other stuff in it? So I'd be just
updating that one city? It SHOULD re-make my FL - since it's been years
since I touched it!

Aside:
Is there a group for the SDS100? I'm thinking of getting one. Or Joe -
is there a new scanner coming out? I notice most places are sold out of
the SDS100.

Thanks - As always.

If they are using conventional DMR, you have two choices:

1. Keep it as-is but change the audio type to DIGITAL ONLY and program
the color code.

2. Program it as a one-frequency-trunk and then you can select the
talkgroups you want to hear.

If they upgraded from analog to DMR AND upgraded to a trunked
system, you would have to program that as a new system type.

You need to change system type from Motorola to DMR. It might be easier to update directly from RRDB to get this right.  It would help to know which radio you have for more detailed help

I was thinking the HPE files are text format.
They are not, but the FL files ARE (HPD files).

Interesting you mention this.  I had always wondered if there was a way to get the data into a spreadsheet from a Sentinel File and go from there as far as working with the data.

Re: No sound on search results.

No it’s not encrypted. My TRX1 is decoding the frequencies perfect, but my 996P2 scanner is quiet on the same frequencies 854 to 856 range. In the settings it is telling me that DMR and Provoice have been activated, but I am not hearing any voice traffic unlike the TRX1. I bought the 996P2 used with the DMR and Provoice already activated. Any idea what could be the problem with my Uniden 996P2? Any help/Advice much appreciated.

Re: BC436hp - Sentinel Question

Joe M.

Sentinel does let you change the Service Type but will not change it from other sources, so the way to keep it the same is for you to not change it. NEW channels default to Custom 1, but again, you can change that if you want.

The record jack is a 1/8” jack. I have two cords at least, that I can use. I’ll take a look at that with the earbuds like you suggested Don. Thanks!

Re: Recording

Edited

Someone suggested getting an older Android phone and downloading the Voice Activated Recorder app to it. I tried it on my own Galaxy. phone and it worked, but I want to be able to plug it into the record jack on the back of the scanner. Unless I can turn off the external Mike on the phone and still record that way with the phone connected to the Scanner.

Re: Recording

Yes, I was just looking at the 7200 on EBay for $25US, or$31.25 Canadian. Shipping is about $34 cdn. I’ll have a look around the area here first though.

Re: Recording

The Olympus VN-7200 should only cost around $30, not $91.

Re: Recording

Now's the time to invest in a digital voice recorder with VOX. I suggest the Olympus vn-7200. it's very economical on batteries and has a built-in mic.  It can run for days on one set of batteries. If you use a patch cord from headphone out to mic input, you may need that to be an attenuated patch cord so hiss doesn't defeat the VOX function. VOX takes advantage of compressing playback time, eliminating the silent periods you don't want to wait through.
