That seems rather odd, largely because it makes it incompatible
with out-of-the box Windows 10, both for reading and writing - and
that makes it odd as a decision at the design phase. It is even
more odd when you consider that most Linux distributions support
read/write/format of FAT12/16/32 in the standard releases.

The manual explicitly states, for the DAR-101 -- "A standard '2GB'
SD card Must be formatted into FAT 16 and all the SDHC card MUST
be for-matted into FAT 32."

There are some recording devices out there that require ext4 - eg,
the Epiphan Pearl Mini, for example (which is video capable and
likely massively 'too much' for just audio recording), so there
are some devices out there. Possible confusion with a different
device?

I am curious in your experience on this, as I have been looking
for a portable device that can handle portable recording using
external mics, and the DAR-101 mostly fills the bill very nicely.
But having an ext4 format requirement is likely a negative point
for a device that hits many positive points.

I can understand that. After all it is a program that formats "drives".

I've never heard of that with any other AVSW though.

That seems rather odd, largely because it makes it incompatible with out-of-the box Windows 10, both for reading and writing - and that makes it odd as a decision at the design phase. It is even more odd when you consider that most Linux distributions support read/write/format of FAT12/16/32 in the standard releases.

The manual explicitly states, for the DAR-101 -- "A standard '2GB' SD card Must be formatted into FAT 16 and all the SDHC card MUST be for-matted into FAT 32."

There are some recording devices out there that require ext4 - eg, the Epiphan Pearl Mini, for example (which is video capable and likely massively 'too much' for just audio recording), so there are some devices out there. Possible confusion with a different device?

I am curious in your experience on this, as I have been looking for a portable device that can handle portable recording using external mics, and the DAR-101 mostly fills the bill very nicely. But having an ext4 format requirement is likely a negative point for a device that hits many positive points.

Why are you looking on the home page? There were two direct links sent. If you don't trust the links, click on FILES and you will see the folder there (it's currently the only one - super easy to find). Within that folder is the file.

Other than paying a personal visit to download the file to your PC, I really don't know what else I can do to make it any easier to get.

Re: Recording

smith@...

-- "One nuisance is that the SD card has to be formatted with ext4 file system"

I do not know about anyone else Joe M.
But that took me to the https://uniden.groups.io/g/main group home page.
I might be dumb, but I didn't see anything to do with the SmartDisk Format Tool.
There is not even a place to do a search for it either.

larger cards. Can you try the DL again? (just want to make sure it's not

That one will not work for his card.

But it does not display the exact time of the reception (only of when the folder started). I think that was one requirement. The files I think do show the exact time of the reception of each recording.

I just tried it and it DL'ed fine. Are you sure you are clicking the correct DL link? There is one on that page to click, then one on the next page, then in a few seconds the DL starts.

Regardless, I'll provide an alternate DL link in a minute.

I agree, works great and you can see all the info on system, department, etc. when playing back on the 436.

Re: Clear User Data on 3600 / 436

Joe M.

That isn't what I asked. If it's still formatted as exFAT, Windows will see it but the scanner won't, and that seems to be the issue at hand, right? If the scanner can't see it, the PC won't see it when it's in the scanner.

No problem. ASAIK that is the only program that will properly format larger cards. Can you try the DL again? (just want to make sure it's not permanently dead)

It wouldn't download. So I kept that other link.

Per their own FAQ:

"SDHC/microSDHC card: FAT32 more than 2GB and up to 32GB"

That one will not work for his card.

The link I posted works here.

Well you either need to select FAT (not exFAT) or use another tool. This
is the one in the video so it's known to work:

And not to pick nits, but exFAT is not FAT.

Re: Clear User Data on 3600 / 436

I have tried clearing the data in both the laptop and the radio. The radio doesn't seem to want to acknowledge it, the laptop does.

Joe you are correct. Just use sentinel “clear user data”. You can even leave the card in the scanner.

Re: Recording

Ray Dunham

Why not just use a Uniden bc436hp scanner. I record my local police and fire 24 hours a day. It shows the time and date of each recording, is easy to transfer to PC, and once you have the scanner, is free.

Re: Clear User Data on 3600 / 436

I have tried that a lot, the programming can't find the card, which makes me think the cable is at fault

Well, that at least sounds like progress.  Since you say that the card is "registering" in your computer, try inserting it back into the computer, and using Sentinel to do the "Clear User Data" as mentioned earlier by Joe.

There’s at least a problem if it’s not “THE” problem.  You should format the card FAT, no exFAT.  You can try again by inserting the card into your computer and right clicking on the drive letter that represents the card.  Select “Format…”, but select “FAT” for the file system.  ***WARNING*** clicking on the wrong drive letter WILL result in formatting a difference drive and loss of data.

It says exFAT, |'m using the recommended formatter by Uniden / Avera. They sent it to me. This is not the card I'm using, I formatted a spare. The USB cable isn't registering on my device manager. I don't know if there os an upper limit on card size in GB.

Do you mean FAT or FAT32.
USB Flash work best with FAT32 especially if you wish to use then on other
than a Windows PC.

I think that leaves the only possibility as
a fault in the unit that would require repair.
