Buying an HP2?
Simple. If your area uses Phase II, you’ll need a radio capable of decoding it. If yours doesn’t, you won’t, but you’ll have it, anyway, in case it ever does.

The practical effect is that if they are using P25 Phase II you will hear them on the HP-2 (assuming unencrypted) and you won't hear them on the HP-1. Joe M.

Yes. You get Phase II digital. And supposedly the audio quality is better.

Buying an HP2?
I currently have an HP1 that works fairly well except for a couple of things. What I want to know is, would I be gaining anything by replacing my HP1 with a new HP2? 73, Dean

HP1 vs HP2 Audio Quality
Likely the difference is antennas. The HP-2 has a newer vocoder, so it makes sense it might be better. But details of where you are located (system types) would result in a better answer. Joe M.

I am not quite sure how you thought the Rig Runner had 9V things plugged into it. In any event, nothing is damaged. I am now using the Uniden 12v cigarette lighter adapter plugged into a 12v power sup

Pull out the batteries. It will work without them but the recording function will be disabled. If it helps it could be a bad SD card that needs to be replaced. /Ubbe

And all the devices on the RigRunner are 9V devices? Or are you feeding the HP-1 12V? (and likely damaged something in doing so) Joe M.

Good Dean, Your mention of a ground loop should be easy to correct if in fact it’s a ground loop that’s causing the problem. Use a common (same) ground.
