Re: Santa Clara County System - any HP-2 users in the San Jose to SF area

Not local, but it sounds like simulcast interference.
Try limiting your reception to just one site.

The SDS series handles simulcast systems
much better (like night and day).

Friends,

I plan to upgrade soon to another Uniden scanner, so my HP-1 w/extreme upgrade is available. I would be grateful for insights on what the HP-1 will sell for.

If you have a good idea, or are interested in buying, please reply direct/off-line. I am in TN. HP-1 is like new, with box, etc. non-smoke, no blemishes. Payment would be via Paypal.

I am esptwo on ebay, should you like to check up on me. I am a hobbyist, not a business seller.

Thanks,

Re: HP2 repairs

I agree with Joe, although I used to charge the batteries in my MAHA charger. When the clock forgot who it was, I charged the capacitor with batteries in, but selected "no charge" and left the unit off, Charged for 2-3 days, and since I use it almost daily, I haven't had the problem again.

I did note that as an additional problem when I just sent the unit to Uniden for repair because the internal antenna connection broke.  They haven't posted a status change other than "unit received" yet.

HP2 repairs

I'm having a problem that plagued the BC436 when they first came out.  I seem to recall that it was mentioned that the HP2 was susceptible to the same problem.

My problem is that the unit cannot hold the date and time info.
It used to hold the time for 4-5 days  between uses but now I can set the time in the morning, use the scanner during the day but turn it off at night and the info is gone in the morning.  If I turn the unit off during the day for an hour or two, the time/date stays intact.

I know that Uniden fixed this problem by a complete board replacement when you sent it in, but others said that the problem was just the internal clock batteries had lost their charge and to recharge, you needed to plug the unit in to charge for 50+ hours.

Before sending the unit in for repair, I'm willing to try that first.  I have never charged my batteries in the unit; rather I have a separate charger.  If I plug my HP2 directly into a wall socket to charge the clock battery, do I need to have the 4 AA batteries installed? Do I need to be concerned about those batteries overheating if the unit is charging for so long?

I'm finding the Uniden support page to be somewhat difficult to understand.  They talk about a list of units that are unrepairable. It's not clear whether that refers to units damaged in such a way that Uniden can't repair them or whether there are certain older models that they no longer attempt to repair.  I just want to make sure the Home Patrol 2 is still a unit that Uniden will service.

For the record, pertaining to all of this I have discovered something possibly useful to someone at least? I got this from Jeffrey Nixon just a day after I finally figured it out on my own:-)
Telecom Tech III
Wireless Services Division
San Diego Sheriff's Dept.

Downloaded Sentinel v2 and installed it, and it comes with the old pre-rebanding frequencies for the North Cell. I then updated the Master HPDB and it updated to the correct frequencies. You can check by opening up the following directories:
USA/California/San Diego/County Systems/San Diego County - Imperial County Regional Communications System/North Cell.
If you double click North Cell you should see a list of 19 frequencies. The top frequency should be 854.162500 and not 856.175000. We changed to the rebanded frequencies last year.

Re: What Happened to Oceanside (California) Police & Fire?

OK it is FIXED!

Long story short is once I basically formatted the entire show then reinstalled it all over again then found that somehow by default that EVERY single freq within the SD County (Imperial) was LOCKED OUT

Now this was the way it was from my download so I had to "unlock-UNBLOCK the entire deal. Then I wrote OVER but only after I also had deleted any and all of my "groups" first.

So now a lot of work awaits to clean out and lock out all I do not want etc but then I am back and it is all I care about:-). I just can't say how much it means to me to at least have THIS much left in my old life:-)

THANK you for everyone's help,
Mike

If you remember what the frequencies are,try to manually program them, and your 396t,I use the control channel only method for trunking frequencies,it works well for me,once you get it going,(use manual),hit lock out for what you don,t want to hear

Hearing nothing only after 15 minutes for the FD isn’t unusual. Sometimes a dept will go hours without a call. If it’s the PD you are referring to it may also just be a quiet time. If you remember what time the FD does their daily radio test you can listen then.

As for Sentinel, it’s a two step process to load new data into the radio... first you download from Uniden the latest data into Sentinel on your computer. Once thats done you then connect your HP II and update the database in the radio. It’s been a while but look for something that may say “Force Write Database”. It should be on the same screen you see when you write to the radio. If you don’t check or turn on the Force Write Database, it won’t write the new database to the radio... it will only write whatever you are looking at the last time you loaded a favorites list to the radio.

Give that a try and report back your findings.

Well, it looks as if all Law Enforcement is now encrypted in that county on the Phase II P25 system.

Like many across the US, we're finding the LE channels and some Fire/EMS also encrypted.

Check Radioreference for the updates (its where Uniden HP's pull data from)

Make sure you "Read From Scanner" to update Sentinel's knowledge of how your HomePatrol is configured. Then after you have downloaded the database update, "Write To Scanner" to update it. If you forgot to read the scanner's configuration on a new Sentinel installation it will overwrite your settings with defaults which may turn off service types you had previously selected.
