Re-banding scan issue
W1JCW <w1jcw@...>
Has anyone had the issue when you program the new Band Plan 1 and Band Plan 2 for the bank to MOT Type I or
Type II Custom (TYPE1 CUSTOM or TYPE2 CUSTOM). I applied the re-banding table and I can manual select the control freqs and you hear transmissions but when the unit is scanning I DON'T hear any transmissions. If I manually step through the freqs I hear transmissions but not when it's scanning. I spoke with Uniden tech support and they were no help, they suggested I do a complete reset and re-program ! I programmed the control freqs in a different bank and selected type II as I should but still no reception when scanning. Suggestions ?? John

1) Make sure you followed the steps at:
http://info.uniden.com/UnidenMan4/BC796DFirmwareUpdate 2) Tell us what specific system you are talking about (a link to it in the RadioReference Database is best). UPMan -
Thanks for the reply. I had the link below, the issue was some portion not being clear or explained in a little more detail. I did not read anywhere that I had to define the new band plan in my scanner or how to accomplish this. I figured out that I had to manually enter the new band plan and how to invoke these as well. If the information was written more clear it may be easier to understand and alleviate customer service calls. It should be explained that you have to define the new band plans and instructions on how should be documented. I have been doing customer support for a long time, clear and concise documentation is the key. John From: Uniden UPMan Sent: Wednesday, August 04, 2010 11:02 AM To: BC796D@... If you have suggestions for improving the 10-step instructions at the bottom of
that page, I can do that. Reading back through it, though, I'm not seeing any gaps. UPMan ________________________________ From: W1JCW <w1jcw@...> To: BC796D@... Sure no problem.
The 10 steps are written fine but a pre-cursor would be helpful as most don’t realize they need to define parameters. Something like this: After the firmware is updated successfully you will need to define / program the re-banding parameters with in the new available settings ( Moto Type II or Type I ) or the applicable setting depending on what the system you want to monitor. I found it unclear as to what was needed with those settings / parameters. Your opinion or comments please. It sure is nice to be able to have this type of dialog with someone in your position. Thank you for your time. John Walker W1JCW From: Uniden UPMan Sent: Wednesday, August 04, 2010 4:54 PM To: BC796D@... Well, right now, it says:
"To set a bank as a rebanded system, set the bank to MOT Type I or Type II Custom (TYPE1 CUSTOM or TYPE2 CUSTOM). Then, apply the rebanding table as follows: " (which is essentially what you've said). I've changed the heading of that section from "Entering a Rebanding Table" to "Programming a Rebanded Motorola System" so maybe that section won't be overlooked. Sure that sounds fine.
If you read what it says now, it does sink in. After reading it for hours I was still unclear on what I actually had to do or program. Then again that could be me, I do read lots of technical stuff often and have seen procedures written very well and detailed and others you cannot understand any part of it. Looks good the way you have suggested. 73- W1JCW John From: Uniden UPMan Sent: Friday, August 06, 2010 10:35 AM To: BC796D@...
